Accessibility Information

The Bird is 175 capacity live music venue and bar with an open air courtyard out the back located 181 William Street, Northbridge WA.


Entrance

The main entrance doorway to The Bird is off William Street. It is 79cm wide and there is a very slight inclined tactile ramp up to door. 

Stairs

There are 3 areas in the venue that have steps. 

1. A step down from the dance floor to the main bar area (this is also connected by a 2.4m ramp with an incline of approx. 9 degrees and hand rail. 

2. In the courtyard, there are 2 steps connecting the lower deck to the upper deck. First set is 18cm the second is 13cm. There is no connecting ramp between the two.  

3. Stage Access for performers: The Bird’s stage is raised 58cm. The access via front of stage / dancefloor has 2 steps 33cm & 25cm respectively. The back access via the Green Room has 3 steps 27cm, 25cm & 8cm. 

Main Bar and Dancefloor

The mainroom consists of a dance floor, stage and bar. There are 2 tables with booth seating located opposite from bar and hightop seating at front of venue. Hardwood and concrete surfaces throughout. 

Courtyard

The entrance doorway to courtyard is 82cm wide. The courtyard consists of a lower level and upper level. Lower level is accessible via wheelchair, plenty of seating and shade. There are 2 steps,  33cm & 25cm respectively, up to top level which also has seating and is semi-shaded. The courtyard is a smoking area.  

Wheelchair Access

Wheelchair access to the bar as well as dance floor and courtyard via ramp.  Be aware of a 30cm step down off dancefloor at rear of dance floor (in line with sound desk) The top section of courtyard is not accessible via wheelchair.

 

Seating

There is plenty of stools, bench and booth seating available throughout venue. We also have 1 couch in courtyard. Seating is removed from in front of stage on gig nights but can be made available on request. 

Toilets

We have split gender and gender neutral toilets located in the courtyard.

The gender neutral toilet (1 available) is wheelchair accessible. The door is 81cm wide and opens inward. Cubical is 1.6m x 2.4m 

Lighting
There are no strobes or flickering lights used in the venue. The lighting in the interior is dim and low. Stage lighting and projections are used during events. Stage lighting is static. Disco Ball over dancefloor. LED festoon lighting and candles in the courtyard.


Food

The Bird serves up food out of Lucky's Tuckshop, Tues – Sat 3pm till late. Outside food may be bought in on Sundays and Mondays. Order at bar. Food delivered to table. 

Animals

We welcome dogs and other well behaved furry friends and support animals!

Payment

EFTPOS available, there is no minimum EFTPOS requirement. We do not offer cash out services. There is an ATM located at the Grab n’ Go store on the corner of Roe & William Street. Note: there is a step from the street into the corner store. 

 

Quiet Spaces

There are no completely quiet locations within The Bird however courtyard is generally quieter than main room with the exception of courtyard parties which run regularly on Wednesdays & Sundays. Please check upcoming event guide. 

 

Earplugs

The venue holds earplugs behind bar and can supply on request

 

Companion Cards

The Bird accepts companion cards. Carers and support workers are allowed free entry to any events.

 

Free Entry for First Nations People

Our events are predominantly held by external promoters, most of who are happy to provide free entry to first nations peoples. For information on individual events please email bookings@williamstreetbird.com 

 

What is the Birds clientele like?

The Bird strives to be a safe space. The venue has a zero tolerance on harassment, assault, discrimination and any other negative behaviours demonstrated towards staff, artists and punters in the space.  

Will events be auslan interpreted

This will be specific to the event however generally Auslan interpreters will not be present. 


Is there braille signage at the Venue?

There is braille signage on the gender neutral bathroom door.

Will there be free drinking water available?

Yes, there is a water station located at the bar.


Will there be a cloak room?

We do not offer cloak room services 


Will there be powerpoints / areas where people can charge mobility or communication devices?

Yes, please ask a member of staff if you would like us to provide a powerpoint. There are powerpoints at the door, behind the bar and in the courtyard. 

 

Getting To the Venue

The are visible and audible crossings located within 20 metres of venue at the traffic lights on the corner Roe Street & William Street

Surrounding pathways are well maintained, 3m wide pedestrian pathways, the area can get congested on weekends. 

Nearest Train Stop and Bus Stop: Perth City Train Station and Bus Port are both within 500m walking distance of the venue.
